Emergency Lighting Solutions.
Using the latest SMD technology, Redwood, in partnership with P4 Limited, the leading self testing emergency light company in the UK, has produced an SMD / LED emergency lighting solution which can be maintained or non-maintained. Suitable for all escape routes and open areas, the lights switch to emergency operation as required by emergency lighting standards to provide a safe environment. In order to automatically conform to the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, standard emergency lighting products incorporate self testing facilities that operate in accordance with the following schedule: A microprocessor contained within the integral FASTEL inverter automatically self tests the emergency lighting in excess of the requirements of BSEN50172 / BS 5266 Pt.8. 8 Days after an uninterrupted mains supply is connected to the unit undertakes a full rated duration commissioning test, checking both lamp and battery capacity followed by continued discharge to a preset deep discharge protection point. The battery will be recharged for 48 hours. 8 Days after the commissioning test a 3 minute functional test checks that the emergency lamp operates from the battery. 8 Days later a further 3 minute functional test again checks that the emergency lamp operates from the battery. After performing 10 consecutive functional test cycles as above, the unit will carry out a battery duration test. This checks both lamp operation and battery capacity. The battery is then fully recharged. The above cycle of 10 consecutive functional tests and a battery duration test is repeated until on the 44th test a full rated duration test is carried out. Once the mains supply is reconnected after any interruption of greater than 5 minutes, the battery will be recharged for 48 hours then the test cycle will resume.
The responsible person must ensure that the emergency lighting is periodically inspected but there is no need to manually carry out emergency lighting testing. Dont be left in the dark. |
